If you’re a cat owner, you’ve definitely been in this position before.  You go get dressed in your freshly washed clothes, you’re feeling good, you look good, you look at the time and realize you still have 5 minutes before you have to leave so you sit down on the couch.  At this moment, your cat jumps on you and lies down with no intention of moving.  Eventually you stand up, it scampers away, and all you’re left with is the fresh fur all over yourself. 

This scenario is all too familiar.  Along with your clothes, you may notice more fur around the house than usual.  This could be due to having spring in the air. 

A cat uses its fur as warmth all year round.  In the winter, it will develop a thicker coat to try and stay warm.  As spring time rolls around, so does the warmer weather.  To stay nice and cool, they naturally shed off the added layer of fur that is no longer needed anymore.

While this sudden burst of fur may seem overwhelming, there are some simple and easy things you can do to help yourself.

1.  Lint Rollers Are Your Friend 

When you don’t have enough time to do a load of laundry to clean your clothes, a lint roller will be your best friend.  It will take a few seconds but it will easily take the fur off of your clothes and keep it on the roller.

2.  Brushes

If you want to try and get ahead of the shedding, brushing your cat regularly is the best way of taking care of their excess hair before it falls all over your home.  Even if your cat won’t sit still long enough for you to thoroughly brush their entire body, a quick brush here and there will only help with the amount of fur that falls off.

3.  Blankets or Furniture Covers

If you notice your cat has a favorite spot on your couch or chair, try putting down a blanket or cover.  Make sure it’s one that is easily moved and washable.  This will give you the opportunity to pick it up and put it directly in the wash without having the fur fall off or end up on the seat of your pants.

4.  Keep Up With Your Housecleaning

Even if you use lint rollers, brushes, and covers, you’re bound to have fur floating around the house no matter what.  Keeping up with sweeping, dusting, vacuuming etc. will be the best way to combat the stray fur.  If you maintain a good housecleaning schedule or routine, it will cut down on the amount that’s in your home and it will be much more manageable.

This is a tough season to be a cat owner as lots of fur being shed can be a hassle and cause frustration.  If you follow these suggestions, the battle with the fur won’t be as bad this shedding season.
